2. GoI launches ‘Vande Bharat Mission’ exercise to bring Indians from abroad


As many as 10 flights are planned to be operated on the first day from various destinations abroad.

India, its the biggest repatriation named Vande Bharat Mission has launched exercises to bring back thousands of stranded Indians from abroad. AI's non-scheduled a commercial flight with around 200 passengers is expected to land at Kochi International Airport in Kerala at 9.45 pm on Thursday,

The Government of India announced a plan to start phased resettlement of its citizens stranded abroad from 7 May.
The multi-agency operation, named 'Vande Bharat Mission', will operate 64 flights in the state-owned AI till 13 May. In the first phase, 15,000 Indian nationals from 12 countries will be ferried.

4. China launches new rocket "Long March 5B" successfully

6. Retirement age will be Increased  58 to 59 on Tamil Nadu Government

More than 25,000 government employees were set to superannuate this economic year. Tamil Nadu government increases the retirement age of the government staff, teachers, and those in public sector units from 58 years to 59 years. Those who are due for retirement on May 31 this year will now retire on May 31, 2021.

8. World Red Cross Day observed universally on 8 May

9. 75th Anniversary of World War II. Those Who Lost Their Lives during World War II Remembrance and reconciliation.


Every year during May 8-9, the United Nations marks the Time of Remembrance and reconciliation for those who lost their lives during the Second World War. The day pays tribute to all the victims of the Second World War. This year is the 75th Anniversary of World War II.

Public Law 115-433, signed by the President on January 10, 2019, states that the Secretary of Defense will hold an event to commemorate the United States' 75th anniversary of World War II, ending December 31, 2021. Commemorative observations will be selected in Europe and the Pacific and historical representation of American forces will be approved by the Office of the Secretary of Public Affairs, Assistant Secretary for Participation in American Foreign Affairs Commemorative Ceremonies.

The primary commemorative objectives are:

  1. Contributions from governmental and non-governmental organizations, to educate the public about the history of WWII, and to highlight the contributions of the Armed Forces service and federal agencies and governmental and non-governmental organizations during WWII.
